7 Mitchell, Roger E. The Press, Rumor, and Legend Formation: Midwestern Journal of Language and Folklore, Volume V, No. 1/2, Spring/fall 1979
Terre Haute, IN Indiana State University, 1979 Stapled wraps Very Good Stapled wraps 8vo 8" - 9" tall
Stapled paper binding, darkened at its spine and very lightly bumped at both outside corners of its front cover; page block edges also a little darkened. Entire double issue is devoted to long article on the lurid and distorted press coverage and resultant myths surrounding the case of Ed Gein. Those myths (but not what was actually known about Gein) served as the basis for the depictions of serial killers in Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacres, and (even after the publication of this article--a good story will always prevail over the truth) The Silence of the Lambs. Scarce and very revealing study. Laid in is a photocopied index (up to and including this issue) to the Midwestern Journal of Language and Folklore, listing contents of each issue, with instructions for ordering back issues. Item is stored in a protective clear plastic bag. 60 pp. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
