The Legend of the Palm Tree, Duarte, Margarida Estrela Bandeira
10 Duarte, Margarida Estrela Bandeira The Legend of the Palm Tree
New York Grosset and Dunlap, 1940 Special Limited Edition Hardcover Very Good No Dust Jacket Hardcover 4to 11" - 13" tall
Sturdy, attractive hardcover copy, spine and binding tight, pages clean and clear, if slightly age-toned, and only minimal wear to covers and tips; some little chipping of the paper-covered boards along the top, inside edge. Illustrated beautifully by Paulo Werneck, this Folio-sized classic children's book is unpaginated, and has only slight wear and darkening to covers. Printed in Brazil, it represents an understandably (given the time) feeble attempt by the United States State Department's to foment and nurture a "good-neighbor" policy with South American countries, in the process hopefully exchanging literature and education. This is a Brazilian folktale, lovingly and colorfully illustrated throughout. Set within a linen-covered slip-case, showing some shelf-wear, cracking along a couple of edges, but still structurally sound. Tipped in is a presentation copy note from the publisher's noting that this is #374 of a Special Limited Edition. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
