Image here depicts only the first of five volumes, this being a sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean set of five hardcover copies, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Rich blue cloth covers, with gilt lettering to spine, rubbed, but still distinct. A First Edition, published in 1954 by the Oxford University Press in New York, and with fully intact, though shelf- and edge-worn dust jackets, chipped and sunned. Some extra crimping and waffling to the dust jacket of Volume V. Published beginning in 1954 through to 1958. Scholarly apparatus to each volume in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Sturdy, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, with rubbed tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library. Various publication dates ranging from 1880 to 1898, and with tipped-in memo (see below). Marbled paper over boards, blue cloth-backed, leather labels on spine, chipped and unreadable. Bumping to spine head and foot, with fraying thereto. Book-plate affixed neatly. Text toned, with a few tape repairs. This is actually a bound volume of several pamphlets, including "Tests of Anti-Corrosive and Anti-Fouling Paints," "Criticism of the U.S.S. Dolphin," "Report of the Two Kinds of Coal." Bound in is a mimeographed page listing the titles of the pamphlets and the initials of the previous owner, W.D.W. (William D. Weaver). Each is paginated separately, and there are several fold-outs, tables and other black-and-white illustrations.
