Ninth edition of an abiding masterpiece of the English language, first published in 1755. Two volume set, complete and in very good condition. Beautifully and professionally rebound in burgundy half-leather and black cloth, with raised bands and gilt lettering and decoration to the spines, top edge gilt, new marbled endpapers and new headbands. Light foxing throughout; pages slightly wavy from age. Volume I has a faint crease to the lower corner throughout, and a light stain to the fore-edge margin of some pages; beginning few leaves of Volume II slightly held together at the top by the binder's application of gilt, but could be easily opened. The texts are otherwise clean and unmarked, and the bindings strong. This is the full, quarto-size set, not the miniature edition that was published the same year. Volume I, A-K; Volume II, L-Z.
