40 Macaulay, Thomas Babington The History of England from the Accession of James II [Four-Volume Set]
Philadelphia E.H. Butler & Co., 1856 Hard Cover Fair No Dust Jacket Hard Cover 8vo 8" - 9" tall
Four-volume set, of varying quality, not ex-library and with neither underlining nor highlighting, but with foxing at endpapers and throughout and moderate to severe scuffing and wear to the extremities. All four volumes have decorated end-papers. Volume I is 519 pages in length, and the hinges are strong, though backstrap is in poor condition (though intact). The first free end-paper features the previous owner's inscription (James B. Clay 1858). Volume II is 475 pages in length and is perhaps the best of the four volumes. One of the four bands of the backstrap, however, has worn away. Volume III's front cover is hanging by a thread, and it clocks in at 578 pages. Volume IV is 576 pages in length, and the rear cover is also nearly detached. The pages are generally clean and clear, however, especially so, given their age. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
